Action Packed Finals concludes CIVF’s National Indoor Volleyball League
The Women’s B division jump started the action for the CIVF National Volleyball League finals on Saturday, November 30th. Guardians Turtle Chapter and Expert Services Ltd took to the court for their final showdown. Having finished first in their division, ESL went into the finals feeling confident. Their confidence was quickly shaken by the strong attacks from GTC. ESL failed to regain their composure which ultimately led to their demise in the first set 25-17. Thriving off the momentum from the first set, GTC quickly annihilated their opponents 25-15, and graciously accepted their title as Division B Champions.
The second match of the evening was bound to be an eventful one, as we had the defending champions, Burger King Lady Knights, playing against Sprint, who just so happens to be the team that ruined their chances at being repeat champions in the PVC league earlier this year. Sprint had the finish line in sight right from the first whistle, as they took the first set 25-11 without even breaking a sweat. The Lady Knights weren’t ready to give up without a fight, so they rallied their troops in order to secure their victory in the second set 25-19. Despite their valiant efforts, the knights attacks were not enough to slow the defence from Sprint. In the end, Sprint added a 3rd championship title to their record this year having won the final set 15-8.
The final game of the evening was between Burger King Knights and Cayman Mechanical Company for the Men’s Division. Burger King Knights came out charging and took the first set without much resistance, against Cayman Mechanical company with a final score of 25-18. After some much needed fine tuning during half time, CMC took the court for the second set. Their adjustments paid off as they just narrowly took the lead 25-23. The tight second set had all the fans in a frenzy, which meant they were all on the edge of their seats going into the third and final set. The spectators were anything but disappointed as they watched as the two rivals battle it out for every single point. The knights came out strong on the attack, but CMC held their ground on defence. In the end CMC was vanquished by the Burger King Knights with the final score of 16-14.
Earlier in the week the 3rd place matches took place, in order to determine which teams would take home the bronze medals. The FBC Bees were the first team to finish in third for the Women’s B Division, followed by the Spike Girls with their 2-1 victory over Cayman Sporty Chicks in the Women’s A Division. FBC Saints valiantly eliminated Pirates is two straight sets.
