SUNDAY BEACH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE – WEEK 5 RESULTS

Image may contain: 3 people, people standing, sunglasses, shorts and outdoorAfter week 5 in the Sunday Beach Volleyball League, Just Da Tip – having won the B Division for the past two weeks – was looking to defend their title for the third week in a row. As pool play got under way, it became clear that the pressure was too much and they failed to make it into the top four.

The Ultimates and I’d Hit That, on the other hand, emerged from regular pool play with a record of 3-0. They would go on to face Sandy’s Angels and Notorious DIG in the semis for their chance to make it to the finals.

I’d Hit That and Sandy’s Angels battled it out in a long-winded match, with I’d Hit That narrowly earning their spot in the finals with a score of 22-20. Meanwhile, on the other court, the Ultimates defeated Notorious DIG 21-16.

In the finals of the session, the top two teams of the competition, I’d Hit That beat The Ultimates 21-19. Unprotected Sets will be returning to the C Division for the final week.

C Division

That Ace Though and Kiss our Aces dominated the C Division as they both finished top of their pools with a 3-0 record. Is it In? secured their spot in the semis with a 2-1 record, and Poppin’ Volleys just barely made it to the semis as it boiled down to point differential due to a three-way tie.

The two top teams faced off in the semis, and That Ace Though came out on top, beating Kiss Our Aces 21-15. Is it in? were defeated in the semis by Poppin’ Volleys, 21-8. Going into the finals, That Ace Though seemingly underestimated their opponents, and as a result, Poppin Volleys won, 21-7.

The league finals will be on Seven Mile Public Beach next to Calico Jack’s on Sunday from 1-6 p.m. There will be raffle prizes, and all winning teams will receive prize packs.

SUNDAY BEACH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE – WEEK 3 RESULTS

There was plenty of great action again in week 3 matches of the Cayman Islands Volleyball Federation Sunday beach league.

In the A Division, Balls in Yo Face and Friends Circle faced off yet again to determine who would emerge victorious in another series of best of five matches. For the second week in a row Balls in Yo Face demolished Friends Circle with a 3-0 record (21-14, 21-12, 21-8).

With the calibre of teams increasing week-to-week due to the weekly promotions and relegations, it was no surprise that the B Division was filled with long rallies and close games.

During regular pool play it became apparent that the teams were evenly matched this week, as five teams finished with a record of 2-1. Of

those teams Just Da Tip, Sandy’s Angels, CIS, and I’d Tap That went onto the semi-finals, but when it boiled down to point differential Notorious DIG found themselves in the bottom four.

In the semi-finals Just Da Tip thrashed Sandy’s Angels 21-10, while CIS were defeated by I’d Tap That 21-14.

In the finals it was Déjà Vu as Just Da Tip beat I’d Tap That Tap 21-18, just as they had done earlier in the day. CIS fought the good fight in their first appearance in B league, as they managed to take third place narrowly defeating Sandy’s Angels 21-18. With five consecutive losses, and a disappointing performance due to injured players being out, Unprotected Sets will be demoted to the C league.

In the C league, there was a huge discrepancy among the teams’ performances. For instance, Poppin’ Volleys emerged untouched from regular pool play with a 3-0 record, which secured their spot in the semis. That Ace though, Is it In, and Easy Tigers went on to join Poppin’ Volleys as the top four teams. In the semis Poppin’ Volleys continued their rampage destroying That Ace Though 21-12. Is it In just barely made it to the finals with their 21-19 victory over Easy Tigers. Going into the Division C finals as favourites, Poppin’ Volleys, annihilated Is It In 21-9 and were soon poppin’ cans of Corona to celebrate their promotion into the B Division.

SUNDAY BEACH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE – WEEK 2 RESULTS

WINNER Group C - Team CISThis past Sunday, 12th February, Public Beach hosted yet another action-packed afternoon as the second week of the league got underway.

Division A scored a classic battle between two dominate teams Balls in Yo Face and Friends Circle, culminating in a best of five series where Balls in Yo Face took the 3-0 win (21-19, 21-19, 21-15).

The competition was heated in the B Division as teams battled it out to earn a spot in the semifinals. Notorious DIG, Sandy’s Angels, Just Da Tip, and The Ultimates proved their worthiness by finishing on top of the regular pool play for the second week in a row. In the semifinals, The Ultimates barely beat Just Da Tip 21-19, meanwhile Notorious DIG pummeled Sandy’s Angels 21-7. Unfortunately, Notorious DIG couldn’t maintain their momentum going into the finals, and The Ultimates clinched 1st place, defeating them 21-15. Kiss Our Aces was relegated to Division C for next week.

In the C Division the regular pool play separated the best from the rest. CIS, Poppin Volleys, Is It In, and Dat Ace Though emerged as the best four teams. With a 3-0 record, both CIS and Poppin Volleys were confident going into the semifinals. Poppin Volleys’ confidence faded fast and they were annihilated by Dat Ace Though 21-15. CIS on the other hand remained calm and collected, which allowed them to crush their opponents, Is It in, 21-11 advancing them to the finals. CIS and Dat Ace Though faced off for the second time that day, but this time around the pressure of winning the Coronas was on. CIS did not seem fazed in the slightest as they had already defeated Dat Ace Though 21-18 in regular pool play. CIS withstood the pressure beating their opponents 21-15, and ending their afternoon with the coveted Coronas in hand and advanced to Division B next week.

CIVF SUNDAY BEACH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE – WEEK 1 RESULTS

Notorious DIG

Local Beach Volleyball action kicked off this past Sunday at the 7-Mile Public Beach courts and will run for the next 6 weeks as a precursor to the Norceca Beach Volleyball Tour event to be held in Cayman in April of this year. By registration time both the B and C Divisions were full with 8 teams each, capped by organizers to allow for lots of fun and exciting games.

In Division B pool play the top finishers were The Ultimates, Just Da Tip, Notorious DIG and Sandy’s Angels. In the semi-finals Sand’s Angels narrowly defeated Just Da Tip 21-19, while the Notorious DIG crushed The Ultimates 21-14, to advance to the final. Earlier in Pool play Sandy’s Angels had celebrated a 22-20 win over the Notorious DIG so many anticipated an epic re-match between the two teams in the final. Minutes into the finals it became glaringly obvious that the confidence and momentum was now with the Notorious DIG as they got their sweet revenge, easily defeating Sandy’s Angels 21-14 in the final to claim their bucket of Corona prize as Division B winners.

In Division C, pool play winners were I’d Hit That, CIS, I’d Tap That, and That Ace Though. In the semi-finals CIS annihilated I’d Hit That 21-8, while I’d Tap That narrowly defeated Dat Ace Though 21-19, to advance to the final. I’d Tap That were undefeated in pool play and earlier defeated CIS 22-20, setting the stage for a grudge match and possible upset as with the B Division Final. CIS were confident and had the momentum from their big semi-final win, but that was all for naught as I’d Tap That pulled ahead early and then secured a convincing 21-15 win in the final to claim their bucket of Corona prize as Division C winners.

7 Mile Beach volleyball players in actionWith the weekly relegation and promotions between the B and C Divisions, teams often find that one minute they’re in, the next minute they’re out. This week “Is it in” found themselves out of the B Division and moving down to the C Division, as a result of their five consecutive losses. Meanwhile I’d Tap That’s strong performance have earned them a promotion to the more prestigious B Division, and rightfully so as they were undefeated throughout the week. We’ll keep an eye to see how each of these teams perform in their new Divisions.

Division A games were suspended for this week due to several teams missing players this past weekend. At the moment there is still room for a couple additional teams in the A Division. Please contact technical@civf.ky if you are interested in entering a team.

Doubles play will also begin this weekend for Men and next weekend for the Women, as they seek to be nationally ranked to earn the right to play in the upcoming Norceca event.
