Mar 11, 2017, 7:53 pm

Image may contain: 3 people, people standing, sunglasses, shorts and outdoorAfter week 5 in the Sunday Beach Volleyball League, Just Da Tip – having won the B Division for the past two weeks – was looking to defend their title for the third week in a row. As pool play got under way, it became clear that the pressure was too much and they failed to make it into the top four.

The Ultimates and I’d Hit That, on the other hand, emerged from regular pool play with a record of 3-0. They would go on to face Sandy’s Angels and Notorious DIG in the semis for their chance to make it to the finals.

I’d Hit That and Sandy’s Angels battled it out in a long-winded match, with I’d Hit That narrowly earning their spot in the finals with a score of 22-20. Meanwhile, on the other court, the Ultimates defeated Notorious DIG 21-16.

In the finals of the session, the top two teams of the competition, I’d Hit That beat The Ultimates 21-19. Unprotected Sets will be returning to the C Division for the final week.

C Division

That Ace Though and Kiss our Aces dominated the C Division as they both finished top of their pools with a 3-0 record. Is it In? secured their spot in the semis with a 2-1 record, and Poppin’ Volleys just barely made it to the semis as it boiled down to point differential due to a three-way tie.

The two top teams faced off in the semis, and That Ace Though came out on top, beating Kiss Our Aces 21-15. Is it in? were defeated in the semis by Poppin’ Volleys, 21-8. Going into the finals, That Ace Though seemingly underestimated their opponents, and as a result, Poppin Volleys won, 21-7.

The league finals will be on Seven Mile Public Beach next to Calico Jack’s on Sunday from 1-6 p.m. There will be raffle prizes, and all winning teams will receive prize packs.

Dec 26, 2015, 8:22 pm

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, March 6, 2017 – The FIVB and the Cayman Islands Volleyball Federation (CIVF) organized a Level I FIVB Coaches Course from March 1 to 5 at the Lion’s Centre on Grand Cayman.

CIVF President, Kennedy McGowan, CIVF Technical Director, Kevin Solomon, and FIVB Course Director, Juan M Cartagena of Puerto Rico, were all present at the opening ceremony. The course catered to 14 participants all living in the Cayman Islands, with nationalities ranging from Caymanian, Jamaican, Barbadian, American and Canadian.  The focus of the 5-day course was the theoretical and practical instruction on how to play the game of volleyball.

“We welcome you and thank you for your presence at this important course.” President McGowan said to the participants. “It is with great pride that for the first time, an FIVB coaching course is being held in the Cayman Islands; it demonstrates the CIVF’s willingness to invest its resources in the development of volleyball on the island. We also greatly appreciate the sacrifice of time that you the participants are investing in this course as well.” McGowan noted.

FIVB Coaches Course Level 1 - Graduates

FIVB Course Director Cartagena said, “I admire countries that seek to continually improve and search for new training opportunities to keep growing the sport of volleyball. This is what Cayman is showing us, and I hope that all this new information and knowledge will be useful and important for all participants.”  Coach Cartagena mentioned that this course was the first Level 1 coaching course facilitated by the FIVB for this year.

Cartagena further noted, “The coach is a very important part of the development and growth of volleyball, and I hope that you would share your knowledge and skills with other coaches as well.”

In concluding the closing ceremony, Course Director Cartagena thanked the FIVB, NORCECA and the NORCECA Development Center for all their support in making the course a reality.

The Cayman Islands Volleyball Federation (CIVF) were proud to host the CIVF National Volleyball League 2015.
